And Here We Are

by Valentina DuPont

You want to succeed,
You want to lead,
While others you leave to bleed.

You want to shine,
You want to fine dine,
While others die—I’m horrified.

You want new cars,
You want new bars,
While others barely have a dime to dine.

You claim you are love,
You claim you are peace—
But it’s clear, you know
You are neither, at least.

At work, you are this,
At home, you are that.
To be honest and clear:
You don’t know who you are.

So how can I trust you,
When you don’t trust yourself?
How can I know you,
When you don’t know yourself?

And here we are…
